

I then opened the images for editing in p'shop and convereted theĬolor space (before doing any adjustments t the image) to theĬostco profile. I did some research, found the dry creek website with ICC profilesĪnd downloaded the profiles for the Luster and Gloss paper for the Looked terrible (blown out in the highlights and organge cast) High res jpegs and took them to Costco for printing. They looked the way I wanted them to on the monitor. I have tried in vein to get good results using the Costco digital Just remember you need to edit to the gamut the printer can print, not expect the printer to match your screen. As someone else mentioned it will also show you, via out of gamut warnings, the areas of the photos which will not reproduce the same as screen phosphors or LCD. In a nutshell it changes your monitor appearance to simulate, to the extent possible, the more limited printer gamut (especially in saturated reds, puples, and blues). See the Photoshop help files for a discription. If your Costco is listed at Dry Creek you'll be able to download the profiles for each paper type and use them for soft proofing. I suspect that is a big part of your problem. If you don't specify this and size the file to the 320 ppi output resolution of the machine (yours may be different, check the model specs with the manager or a Google search) it will resample and color correct the image. The most important thing is to mark the order "NO MACHINE CORRECTIONS PLEASE - sized and corrected in Photoshop" and repeat the instruction to the person taking the order, and the manager if available. My Costco only outputs 8 x 12 prints so if I want an 8 x 10 I crop and resample to 8 x 10 320 then increase the canvas size to 8 x 12 adding 1 inch gray bars on each end. Why 320 ppi? That happens to be the native resolution of Noritsu at my Costco. If I want 4圆 and 8 x 12 prints of the same file I prepare two separate output files.

I resample my images to 320 ppi at whatever size I want to print. FWIW - It makes little practical sense to edit in a colorspace larger than the output device, so you'd be better off editing in sRGB since you shoot in that gaumut.

sRGB is actually pretty close to what the Noritsu is capable of producing so I could see how you'd run into problems processing an AdobeRGB file.

I've had good success just using an sRGB workflow. Ethan of DCP was nice enough to e-mail me letting me know this. The Noritsu at my local Costco in Manassas, VA wasn't for almost a year after DCP started profiling. If your Costco isn't in the Dr圜reekPhoto database it may because its printer isn't up to DCP's standards. Costco paid them to profile all their printers. It has a database of Costco printer profiles and tutorials on preparing files.
